Maybe you're in town for a big family reunion or live in the area and just looking for something to do on the weekend. There are lots of things to choose from when you're interested in something to do with the whole family in Elizabeth and the surrounding area. So, instead of taking off to a Toronto bed & breakfast for a new experience, why don't you check out some of these suggestion of great attractions and events right here.

The Singer Sewing Building used to be the site of ten thousand workers during the Industrial Revolution. Today, you can see what working conditions were like in one of the operations that helped to lead New Jersey into an economic boom. While now people are interested in making things like organic baby bath products and the newest electronics, Singer sewing machines can still be found beside them in a department store. Many of the rooms in the building are still as they were when the factory was open.

There are several historical sites in Elizabeth for those that are interested in the shining moments in the city's past. Boxwood Hall is the former home of Elias Boudinot and is where he hosted a luncheon for George Washington before his inauguration in Manhattan in 1789. Hersh Tower was designed in an Art Deco style with buildings like the Chrysler Building in mind. It is the tallest structure in the county and a great stop for anyone with an artistic mind. Instead of a regular day of running errands like picking up aquarium fish foods, maybe you should check out some of these interesting locations.

The Ritz Theater is one of the jewels of Elizabeth and is a great place for a night out with the family. There are performances of everything from a Broadway touring production to a local dance show and there is certainly something for the whole family to enjoy. Or if you want to leave diapers duty to someone else for the evening, it could be a great place for a night out.

Jersey Gardens may not have many flowers and trees, but there sure is some great shopping. Whether you're in need of some new shoes or something to spruce up your kid's room, you'll find everything you need at the best prices here.

After a day with the family, you're sure to need a good dinner. Since you probably don't have access to the best personal chef Toronto or New York has to offer, you probably want to head to one of Elizabeth's fine restaurants. Whether it's Algarve Restaurant or Restaurant Valenca, there are plenty of excellent choices in the downtown area.
